Tom Brady Sets Another Record in Super Bowl Victory

Entering Super Bowl LIII, Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady had already been considered the greatest quarterback of all time by many. Appearing in his unprecedented ninth Super Bowl, he was tied with former 49ers and Cowboys pass rusher Charles Haley with five victories.  A win would break that mark, but a loss would tie him with Jim Kelly for most losses by a quarterback with four and the fourth quarterback to lose back-to-back Super Bowls. albeit Brady entered 5-3 and Kelly never won a Super Bowl.

While Brady failed to record a touchdown pass for the first time in a Super Bowl, the Patriots went on to win by the score of 13-3. The 16 combined points was tied for  the second lowest in Super Bowl history in a game where most people predicted a shootout. Nonetheless, Brady set the record with most Super Bowl wins of all time and is 6-3 overall in the big game.

The 41-year old quarterback  just completed his 19th season and won his first Lombardi Trophy back in 2002 when the Patriots ironically beat the Rams by a 20-17 score.  He had a mediocre game, completing 16-of-27 for 145 yards and a touchdown.

Two years later in Super Bowl XXXVIII, Brady completed 32-of-48 for 354 yards and three touchdowns in a 32-29 win over the Panthers.  The following season, he threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-21 upset win over the Eagles.

Over the next nine seasons, the Patriots went to the Super Bowl only twice, losing both times to the Giants. Brady completed a combined 56-for-89 for 542 yards and three touchdowns in the defeats.

Back to winning ways, the Patriots have been to four Super Bowls in the last five seasons, winning four of them. The only blip was a 41-33 loss to the Eagles last season in Brady’s best Super Bowl, completing 28 passes for 505 yards and thee touchdowns.

Brady has thrown for over 2800 yards and 18 touchdowns in nine Super Bowl games. He’s also won a record four Super Bowl MVP’s.   The greatest of all-time keeps adding to his list of accomplishments. Although age 41, he shows no signs of hanging up the cleats.  Don’t put it past him to bring home another few titles before hanging them up for good.
